Sunshine
Apparently, up above those ferocious storm clouds, there is a sun shining down upon us and because of this we need to be extremely careful about its harmful effects. At school, this means everybody needs to wear a hat, with a brim, whenever they go outside. It is a good idea to have one which can be left at school. As expected, there has been some resilience to this from the class, so I urge you to check out: http://www.sunsmart.org.nz/ to read why people need to wear hats at this time of year. There is also a helpful UV indicator that lets you know the current UV index for Wellington - check this out on a cloudy day.

Maths Websites
Kia Ora -
Maths Week 2007 is upon us and so far it has been a lot of fun. As well as our normal maths lessons we are beginning each day by playing Survivor 2007 (a game where groups race each other to be the first to solve a series of mathematical puzzles) and we end the day playing on-line maths activities. For more information visit:
www.mathsweek.org.nz/
If any one feels like visiting other maths websites to practise their maths, then try out:

After Stage Challenge
Hello.
We performed Stage Challenge last week on Thursday 21st of June. We won drama, performance and choreography excellence awards. We also won a trophy. We did not come first but we had a fantastic time. We competed against around ten other schools and colleges. It feels different not practising Stage Challenge, but now we can look forward to the rest of the year.

Well, today was really fun. We had market day. It was hosted by the senior school because we were raising money for our Stage Challenge.
This week our goals have been:
- Practicing our dialogue writing.
- Working on geometry + multiplication + division.
- Publishing our stories and book reviews.
- Finishing our inquiry.
We have been doing art with Tash every Wenesday. We are going to enter our art into the UNZ art competition. We have also been practising our hockey skills every Friday.
Well thats about it for this week, bye.

Blogging
It has been really great to be able to visit people's blogs and read what they think about what is going on in school (extra brownie points to all those kids who have changed the look of their blog - even if Seb's choice of colours nearly crashed my computer).
If you look to the top of this blog you'll see that I've added a countdown widget. This will show the time left until important events. For now, it shows the deadline to have everyone's first blog posted. Check everyone's link on the day to see if we all made it in time.
Any suggestions for our next lesson on blogging? I think it should be how to correct punctuation and grammar mistakes, but then I am the teacher.

This Week At School
This week at school we have been:
· Improving the way that we write dialogue. This will be a major focus for this term.
· Improving the strategies that we use to solve division problems.
· Learning to respond to and say simple classroom instructions in Maori.
· Doing cross-country running.
· Learning how to gather information and change it into notes that we can use later.
· Creating our dance for Stage Challenge.
Go and ask one of the kids about this. Go on...
Please visit often. Leave comments. Ask questions. Enjoy.

Welcome
Welcome.
You have found yourself at Thorndon School’s Room 5 blogsite. This is a space where work at school can be shared with people outside of school. You may be a parent of someone in the class. You may be a friend of someone in the class. You may be someone interested in education. Whoever you may be – welcome. We hope that you enjoy reading what we have to share.
You will also find links down the side of this page that will take you to individual blogsites for everyone in the class. These blogs are managed by individual class members. They have chosen what to write about and what to share. Comments of encouragement and ways that we can improve our work will be gratefully accepted.
